This article examines Brazil’s public security challenges in the 2026 electoral context based on the "2025 Brazilian Public Security Yearbook" and official data recently released by the Ministry of Justice for 2025. It argues that recent reductions in lethal violence coexist with structural shifts: stronger organized crime networks, the surge of cybercrime, persistent violence against women, and rising police lethality in parts of the country. The article defends a policy agenda grounded in federal coordination, strategic intelligence, and democratic police professionalization, rejecting authoritarian shortcuts incompatible with the rule of law.
