About the Journal

The Brazilian Journal of Criminal Sciences aims to publish scientific papers related to criminal sciences, comprising the areas of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedural Law and Criminology.The journal also publishes interdisciplinary works in the humanities and social sciences, as long as they present contributions that dialog with the themes and problems of criminal sciences. In order to cover the editorial scope, the journal is divided into the following sections: (a) Criminal Law; (b) Criminal Procedure; and (c) Criminology.

Aiming to develop solid knowledge in the criminal sciences that will have an impact on judicial practice, BJCrim also publishes critical commentaries on jurisprudential decisions, preferably those emanating from higher and international courts, as well as opinions. With the aim of also dialoguing with academia, the journal publishes critical reviews, interviews and research reports. These contributions are mainly included in section (d) Law by those who do it or can be published independently.

The Revista Brasileira de Ciências Criminais presents this special dossier dedicated to the critical analysis of Law 14.532/2023, which introduced significant changes in the definition, punishment, and interpretation of racism-related crimes in Brazil. This new legislation represents a milestone in the evolution of the legal treatment of racial discrimination, requiring a deep reflection on its theoretical and practical impacts. Furthermore, this dossier addresses issues such as racism in religious, recreational, and sports contexts, the intersections between racism and homophobia, and the implications of the legislation for criminal enforcement and the Penal Code. The aim is to foster a qualified and interdisciplinary debate on the challenges and perspectives brought by the new law, contributing to the advancement of research and the fight against racism in the legal and social spheres.
